Eyjafjallajökull volcano last night. Ash fumes in the air lighted up by a large lightning, above the erupting crack in the glacier.
As I’m writing this text (17.april 15:13 local time), the news in Iceland are giving out a security warning about how to avoid to be struck by lightning in the area around the volcano.

Two stunningly great pictures
These are the winners of the Energizer Photo Contest 2009.

The sun only shines through this natural “door” at just the right angle to create a beam of light, for two weeks out of the year—one week before and one week after the winter solstice. In order to see this spectacular sight other conditions need to be just right as well: no fog or clouds on the horizon, and a low tide. The light does not last long, so being prepared is key!
